Charlie Finn is a Sydney-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from the state of Ohio in the USA. His latest single is named after that state and it has its premiere on this site today.

Finn released his debut single, ‘Picking up the Pieces’, in 2019 and played around Australian supporting artists such as Joshua Hedley, Joe Pug, Jonny Fritz and The Easy Leaves, and also played several shows of his own at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

‘Ohio’ evokes Finn’s childhood, both lyrically and with the song’s midwestern country-rock sound; his refrain ‘I wonder now why I wanted so badly to be free’ is bittersweet because, of course, he’s left that childhood and its setting behind, but Finn sounds as though he’s looking back not with regret but with the perspective that comes from growing up and moving on.

‘I have really fond and vivid memories of where I grew up and how I spent my time,’ he says. ‘When I wrote the song I wanted to try to capture those feelings not just through lyrics, but in the overall sound of the song. To me this song sounds like Ohio, and the memories contained in it make it a really special one for me.’

‘Ohio’ is set to be released independently across all platforms on 20 November 2020.
