Single release: ‘Diamonds and Coal’ by Rhianna Fibbins

Posted by

This single was released in the middle of December 2020 but because of the way the end of each year melts into the start of the next, it’s probably okay to sneak it in as a ‘new release’ … Or just to say it’s worth sharing because it’s a really lovely song.

Rhianna Fibbins grew up in the NSW Hunter Valley and later, in Melbourne, formed country band The Sideshow Band with her sister, Layla. The band sang as a trio with Tim Rogers, opened for Cold Chisel at Rod Laver Arena and for Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Now Fibbins has a debut EP on the way, entitled From the valley looking out. The first single is ‘Diamonds and Coal’ and it is, says Fibbins, ‘an ode to my high school best friend with whom countless hours were spent dancing around winter bonfires and driving free and fast through dry back paddocks.

‘A deep dive reflection of our journey growing up in a coal mining town and finding our own fun rolling a few sneaky joints by the river and talking about local cowboys with potential, I wanted this song to encompass the shock and sadness of tragically losing her with the importance of beautiful fun memories and conversations to remember forever.

‘I hope this song drifts on the summer wind and finds her somewhere.’

It is a country song with heart and soul, and Fibbins’s voice telling the story with just the right tone. There is no EP release date yet, but you can keep up with Fibbins’s news at www.rhiannafibbins.com and rhiannafibbins.bandcamp.com
