Singer-songwriter Sarah Leete lives in the Narrabri Shire area/Kamilaroi land in New South Wales. In 2017 she released an eponymous EP in 2017, co-produced by Catherine Britt and Michael Muchow and since the she’s played support slots for Fanny Lumsden and the Viper Creek Band, amongst others, performed at Gympie Music Muster and the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and, in conjunction with Hayley Marsten, created the ‘Write Like a Girl’ showcase at TCMF.

Leete has released a wonderful new single, produced by Michael Muchow. ‘Nothin’ Special’ is an instantly appealing love song with a twist – the hero of the story is ‘nothin’ special’, and while he’s all our protagonist is thinking of, she doesn’t believe a happy ending is on its way.

Leete says the lyrics were inspired by a high school assignment: ‘I had to write a creative writing piece, and I chose to do a boy meets girl story but it didn’t work out, then as the resolve instead of the typical “and she was better off for it” I decided that they actually went and worked it out. My teacher handed it back to me and told me to rewrite the ending. She wanted me to finish the story as “she was better off without him”. For whatever reason, that has always stuck with me.’

The song was written last year and recorded in Brisbane in between 2020 border closures. The video was filmed around the Tasmanian towns of Kempton and Bothwell/Palawa land in January, when Leete was there on holiday, and her husband makes a cameo at the end of the clip.
