Sydney-based singer-songwriter Dani Young is an artist who is as adept at creating songs about landscape (‘Outback Lullaby’) as she is town life (‘Stepping Stones’). And over the course of her past few singles she has shown that she is interested in the intricacies of human existence, the impact we have on each other and on the places where we live.
Young’s new single, ‘Alibi’, is very much about the impact humans have on each other – in this case, the effects of the actions of a manipulative person. ‘Two to make a mistake/One to make a heart break’, she sings, but it’s clear from the way she sings that, having seen through that manipulator’s tactics, she is out the other side. The defiance of a survivor infuses the track, which was produced by Jeremy Edwards, mixed by Shane Nicholson, and co-written with Katie Jayne, and recorded live in the studio.
Earlier this year Young wrote and recorded a song for the internationally awarded film Stille Nacht (now streaming on SBS on Demand) and featured on a charity single for Drought Angels alongside 70s pop star Marty Rhone.
