These days optimism is in short supply – in some parts, at least – but it’s never been more necessary. There’s an argument to say art should reflect the times but a counterargument – or perhaps complementary argument – that says it should or could shape the times. The new single from Vixens of Fall, ‘Crooked Crown’, would form part of that second argument.
‘This song was written to inspire everyone to reach out and be the kind of person to share love, respect and positivity!’ say the band’s members, sisters Nina, Wren and Lulu. ‘To straighten someone’s “Crooked Crown” is to lift a person up, dust them off and be there for support; and we believe this is what the world needs now more than ever!’
The song was written with Gina Jeffreys and Rod McCormack – McCormack produced the track too – as well as Nashville songwriters Sam Gay and Tempelton Thompson. It further establishes the Vixens’ sound as a tight harmonising trio who make thoughtful country-pop that often tugs at the heartstrings and, in the case of ‘Crooked Crown’, inspires.
Vixens of Fall’s previous single, ‘Scouts Honour’, debuted at #1 on the iTunes Country Singles chart and was added to ‘Aussie Country’ and ‘Country Chill’ on Apple Music. The band was also awarded Most Popular Independent Country Band at the Independent Country Music Awards and were finalists in the Queensland Music Awards for Best Country Song. And ecause they are based in Brisbane, they have been able to play shows this year, including as a support act for Golden Guitar winner Melody Moko.
