Sunny Cowgirls last released new music in 2016, their eighth album No Way Out. No doubt the time since has been well filled, as both Sunny sisters, Sophie and Celeste, have other commitments – and they no longer live in the same part of Australia. To record their new song ‘Raining Pineapples’, and the other material on their forthcoming EP Happy Days, they travelled to Gunnible homestead near Gunnedah, New South Wales. The acoustic EP will feature two new songs as well as versions of some of their hits and a cover of Lee Kernaghan’s ‘Hat Town’.
‘Raining Pineapples’ is one of the new tracks and it describes what it’s like in those moments after a long-await rain falls on a dusty landscape. Sunny Cowgirls have always written great lyrics about their life on the land, which is part of why they’ve been so popular with country music audiences – who will, no doubt, be happy to hear this new song. It is a toe-tapper in the Sunny Cowgirls tradition and will hopefully accompany the sound of real rainfall in the not-too-distant future, as many of the band’s fans wait for raining pineapples of their own.
