The Queensland sisters who comprise Vixens of Fall have provided a solution to any post-winter blues you may be feeling: listening to their new single, ‘The Long Game’. Their divine harmonies will carry you away and this country-pop gem will leave you with a smile – if you’re not already smiling after the first few bars.
The song, which was co-written with Rod McCormack and Nashville-based writers Sam Gay and Templeton Thompson, speaks frankly about the strength of womanhood and about a woman who doesn’t give her heart easily. The lyrics for the track take their inspiration from the sisters’ mother, whom they fondly refer to as ‘Mama Vixen’. The eldest sister of the trio, Kristina Lessmann, explains, ‘Mama always taught us that people come in and out of our lives for a reason. Our soul mates however, are the people that we recognise instinctively and who awaken a feeling of wanting them in our lives for the long term – hence “The Long Game”.’

Four-piece band Darlingurst have impressed fans and industry alike since they released their debut single, ‘Sorry Won’t Get You Back’, a year ago. Their new song is ‘Gotta Go Rodeo’ which was inspired by a place in Moama, NSW, that singers Cassie and Pagan would visit on occasion.

‘”Gotta Go Rodeo” is essentially about a place owned by friends of Pagan’s and mine who throw the most craziest parties,’ says Cassie. ‘As you enter a sign reads “leave your inhibitions at the gate” and everyone that enters generally does that. It’s about escaping whatever’s bringing you down or holding you back and letting your hair down.’
The song is a rollicking ride that will at the very least have you tapping your toes in place – but you’ll probably want to get to your feet, which would definitely be in the spirit of the song. An acoustic version of the song can be seen in the video below.
