South Australian-born Nashville resident Kristy Cox is arguably Australia’s best-known bluegrass performer, with a semi-permanent lock on the Bluegrass category in the Golden Guitars, the recipient of five awards with another nomination this year. She’s also been shortlisted in the International Bluegrass Music Awards the past five years for Emerging Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year and was a finalist in the 2019 IBMA Momentum Awards for Vocalist of The Year. On her new album, Shades of Blue, it’s clear that Cox’s passion for her art is still as strong as ever as she delivers a deeply satisfying collection of bluegrass songs. I spoke to her recently – you can listen in YouTube or Soundcloud, both options below.
