Jenny Mitchell is an artist originally from the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand, now resident on the North Island. But pre-pandemic she was a frequent visitor to this big island to the west of her homeland, forging connections and finding fans amongst Australians. Now Mitchell has signed with an Australian label, Cooking Vinyl, and released the single ‘Somehow’. It’s not the first new music since her 2018 album Wildfires – she released the single ‘Trouble Finds a Girl’ featuring Tami Neilson last year, and an EP, The Grainstore Sessions (Live), recorded with her sisters and father – but it is no less welcome for that. Mitchell is a moving and precise songwriter and singer, and hopefully her new Australian connection will bring her back to these shores soon. We spoke recently about her released music, and music to come. You can watch in YouTube or listen in Soundcloud.
