James Johnston has released a handful of singles and is already an unqualified success, with over 350 000 monthly listeners on Spotify and festival appearances and other shows lined up. He’s also become a master of social media, using TikTok, in particular, to great effect – so much so that his recent single, ‘Same Songs’, came about entirely because of social media. The song was written and recorded with Kaylee Bell, but it was also a collaboration with both of their social media followings. When I spoke to James recently I wanted to find out more about this, because it heralds his openness to not only new collaborations but new ideas. This is part of his difference as an artist and, no doubt, why audiences are embracing him so much. You can watch that chat on YouTube or listen in Soundcloud.
