On 24 March Victorian artist Stefanie Duzel will release her debut album, The Other Side, which she began recording two years ago with producers Lachlan Bryan and Damian Cafarella. At the same time Duzel was managing her venue, The Macedon Railway Hotel, through lockdowns – then a fire tore through the premises in 2021, and ultimately that was the demise of the business. Through it all Duzel persisted with her music and she now has an album ready to release and shows booked (details below).
The title track of Duzel’s album is having its premiere here today, along with the music video. The song has fiddle and piano, guts and sass and country charm and twang, and also plenty of joy, and that joy is present in the video too, as you can see below.
Says Duzel of ‘The Other Side’, ‘It’s about the internal struggle of closing a chapter in one’s life and moving forward into the unknown. Most important is the hope that those who are important to you will join you on that journey!’
And while this is Duzel’s debut release as a performing artist, she has been writing for quite a while, including for television. One of her songs, ‘Gone’, was recently recorded by Karise Eden, inaugural winner of The Voice Australia. She is also not new to performing, having supported such artists as Richard Clapton, Russell Morris, Tex Perkins and Tim Rogers.
