The title of the forthcoming second album from Victorian singer-songwriter Nathan Seeckts is Something Rare and Beautiful and that is also an apt description for the story he tells in his new single, ‘Cassette in the Tapedeck’ and the video that accompanies it.

‘Cassette in the Tapedeck’ was, says Seeckts, written for his father, ‘the first hero I ever had. My musical journey and love of 80s heartland storytelling began in the front seat of his 1970 LC Torana.’

His own storytelling has resonated with audiences to whom he has played the song live: ‘I’ve had so many people come up to me after the show to share stories and memories that they have of the Torana they once owned and how they connected so deeply with the song,’ he says.

A song with such origins deserves a video that pays tribute to those origins as well as what is core to the song: a relationship between father and son and the shared joys that have arisen from it. And the video for ‘Cassette in the Tapedeck’, which is having its premiere here today, captures that story from both sides: both childlike and knowing, with two generations appreciating the wonder that those shared joys can bring. The story in the video does not mimic that of the song so much as pay tribute to it, which only enhances the audience’s experience.

You can watch the video below and listen to Seeckts’s album Something Rare and Beautiful when it is released on 23 June.
