Last year Sydney troubadour Pete Campbell released his debut EP as a solo artist, A Second Glance, although his musical career was well established: in the 1990s and early 2000s Campbell was a lead guitarist in Sydney rock bands Brave and Crazy and Maryanne Rex Band. He then took a break from music before returning as a solo artist whose influences include Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Neil Finn and Bernard Fanning.
A single from that EP, ‘Bring to the Dawn’, had its premiere on this site last year, and it is a privilege to be able to premiere Campbell’s latest single, ‘Nest for You’, which will appear on his next EP, Parley, to be released on 24 November.
‘Nest for You’, which was written before the debut EP was released, is a promise of love and security reinforced by the structure and sounds in the song and reflected in Campbell’s strong and emotional vocal. After a couple of listens it becomes gently hypnotic, and thus we feel that the song itself becomes that nest, offering comfort as well as safety.
