Cool is a word that’s bandied around a bit, and not only in relation to spring evening temperatures. It’s one of those words that has multiple applications in multiple situations yet always manages to remain in and of itself cool. It is, therefore, a fitting word to apply to formerly-of-Perth-now-of-Brisbane Delilah Rose and her music. Her album Moxie, released last year, contains various manifestations of cool, and nowhere more so than on her latest – and last – single from the album, ‘Jack’s House’. It is right there when Delilah sings ‘we are but gold dust’ in the chorus and makes you believe it; it’s also there in the musical foundations of the song, sweeping the listener into the experience.

‘“Jack’s House” is about the summer of love,’ explains Delilah, ‘it’s about experimenting and celebrating your sexuality, it’s about a time when things were simpler and about the fragility of life. It’s about the paradox of art being everything and nothing. As Joni Mitchell said, “We are star dust, we are golden.”’

The video for ‘Jack’s House’ is having its online premiere here today, and it shows Delilah at Foxhole Studios in Perth with the All-Star Ladies of Rock while they record the album, quite clearly having fun as they record – and, frankly, there is nothing cooler than the underrated commodity that is fun.

The video was shot by Fremantle videographer Tashi Hall; the song was produced by Noah Shilkin, with Delilah on co-production duties, the engineer was Chad Blondel, and it was mastered by the award-winning James Newhouse.
