Olive Mae is a folk/country singer-songwriter from the south-west of Western Australia who released her debut single, ‘Give Me Something’, in 2022. Last year she released the single ‘Hit the Road’ and her latest single is ‘Wait & See’ – both of them will appear on her EP due for release later this year.

Mae has been a musician for most of her life, learning instruments from a young age and playing in a band in adulthood before taking a break to raise her children. She’s now back writing and releasing music, and playing music – including up and down the east coast of Australia over the past few months, culminating in her first visit to the Tamworth Country Music Festival. We had a chat about all of that. You can watch our chat on YouTube (below), watch a snippet (also below) or listen on the podcast. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

ABOUT OLIVE MAE

Olive Mae is a folk/country singer/songwriter from a small town in the southwest of WA (Cowaramup).

After being inspired by artists such as Paul Kelly, The Waifs and Missy Higgins, she requested a guitar for her 18th birthday and promptly taught herself how to play it. She then started writing her own songs and soon after got a band together and started playing some local venues in her hometown.

Things on the musical front slowed quite a bit after the arrival of her two sons in her early twenties and it wasn’t until 2019 that Olive picked up the guitar and started writing songs again.

After another break during COVID, she was ready to hit the local music scene with a bang and after the release of her debut single “Give Me Something” in mid 2022, she soon quit her day job and was able to do music full time.

Off the back of a dual 2023 WAM Song of the Year nomination (Country & Outstanding Regional), with her song “Girls Like You”, Olive set out on a massive east coast road trip with her family in late August 2023 and released two more singles, “Rainy Days” and the title track of her forthcoming EP, “Hit the Road”.

She has played gigs in every state since, including Tamworth Country Music Festival and Agnes Blues and Roots Festival, before heading back to WA in February 2024.
