At the core of Darlinghurst, in their first incarnation and as they are now, as a duo, have been the vocals of Cassie Leopold and Pagan Newman. The pair have sung together for years, in other bands, and in all sorts of gigs and recordings, and that intrinsic knowledge of how to sing with each other has led to the irresistible sound of ‘Gypsy Girl’, their latest single.

This sound – their harmonies, and the effortless way thy interplay with each other – is evident in the video of the song, which is having its premiere here today and captures an acoustic recording of the song at Ziggy Tone Studios. Leopold and Newman are accompanied on guitar by the in-demand Damian Cafarella (The Pleasures, Andrew Swift, Lachlan Bryan & the Wildes), who produced and mixed the studio recording of the track.

Newman takes the lead in this song that is, as Leopold says, about ‘the girl who is not bound by the conventions of traditional society. “Gypsy Girl” serves as a reminder to all the power of individuality and the beauty of a life lived on one’s own terms.’ In their performance in this video it’s clear that as much Darlinghurst are making music on their own terms, the two singers also know how to work beautifully with each other, creating a special rendition of this song.
