Victorian artist Jeremy Beggs has established a catalogue of songs, such as ‘Cover Me’ and ‘Hurtful Ways’, that are melodically entrancing while lyrically going to the meat of matters: life, the meaning of it, and the place of love in it.

His latest single, ‘I Just Wonder’, which is having its premiere here today, adds to and enriches the catalogue. It is an exploration of loss, and as it builds towards its end, and the backing vocals from Annie Luckman kick in, it becomes stunningly clear that the loss has not lessened with time.

Says Beggs of the song, ‘This song is incredibly personal and represents one of the most emotional pieces of my musical journey. It took years to feel ready to write it, and even longer to find the right melody and words. The creative process wasn’t just about telling a story — it was about honouring someone very special while navigating the delicate balance of grief and love while reflecting on the fragile, miraculous nature of life.’

The song was produced by Beggs with Ash MacLean, engineered by Clint Wilson and mixed by Damian Cafarella.

‘The imperfections and spontaneity in both writing and recording reflect the beauty of creating something meaningful from moments of vulnerability,’ says Beggs. ‘This song, to me, feels like a true collaboration—not just with the musicians, but also with the memories and emotions that inspired it.’
