**NB: I called the Vixens of Fall single ‘Sinkin’ Ships’ instead of ‘Sinkin’ Spirits’ but I’d already tried to record the episode so many times that I ran out of time to do it again!**

Brad Cox – ‘I’m a Boxer’
Brad Cox released his debut self-titled album in 2018 and it was clear from the start that he had an incredible voice and the songs to go with it. ‘Water on the Ground’ was the breakout song for me from that album, a masterpiece of impactful storytelling and singing, but there were several other great songs on it, and on his albums since. The second album was My Mind’s Projection in 2020 and the third, ACRES, in 2023. He has received ARIA nominations and won Golden Guitars, and he’s also a touring force.
Most recently Brad has released the single ‘Everything I’ve Got’ with new label Warner Music Australia and his latest single is ‘I’m a Boxer’, which is a change of pace, literally, but a great chance of direction for him because it shows what has always been true: that voice, that presence he has as a recording artist, works across styles of song.
The Buckleys – ‘See Your Folks Again’
I’m a big fan of family band The Buckleys, with members Sarah, Mollie, Lachlan and now, officially, youngest member Dylan on drums. They are one of Australia’s best live bands and their cosmic country works beautifully recorded as well. They have a new song, ‘See Your Folks Again’, which Sarah wrote with Ned Houston and with Alex Laska from KINGSWOOD – The Buckleys toured with KINGSWOOD last year. Alex also produced the track. The Buckleys have played at CMC Rocks this weekend and if they are playing in your vicinity please go and see them as they are so, so good live.
Vixens of Fall – ‘Sinkin’ Spirits’
The Buckleys have been writing with Queensland sister trio Vixens of Fall to create the new Vixens single ‘Sinkin’ Spirits’. The Vixens have also been at CMC Rocks and will be appearing at Outback River Lights Festival, Outback Skies, Gympie Music Muster and Urban Country Music Festival and Savannah in the Round this year.
Roger Knox – ‘Prison Wall’
Roger Knox is a Gomeroi songman and storyteller known as the Koori King of Country, and he’s just released a new single ‘Prison Wall’ ahead of his appearance at Garinji Dandibara Djanaan in Toowoomba on April 4.
Says Roger of the song, ‘I’ve been performing in the prisons for many years. It’s a place where you have to give it everything you’ve got.’
The song is from Roger’s sixth studio album, which will be released later in 2025.
