This year Ballarat, Victoria singer-songwriter Jeremy Beggs has released two singles, ‘I Just Wonder’ and ‘Worn Hands’, following his steady releases of recent times. Beggs is a thoughtful artist whose lyrics delve into what it means to be here, being human, and whose Americana sound draws out and reinforces the emotion in his songs.
Beggs’s latest single, ‘Twelve Years More’, is having its premiere here today, and in this song his subject is his wife and their dozen years of marriage, and what they mean to him as a dreamer who longs for the open road.
‘Honey, 12 years pass,’ he sings. ‘Some dreams get half as many/I knew our love would last.’
‘I wanted to write [something] to honour our relationship,’ Beggs explains. ‘It has been a journey, as all relationships are, but above all, our love and commitment to each other shines through.’
The song was written by Beggs and features an uplifting saxophone line – not often found in country music but it enhances the message of the song, showing us what those twelve years mean to Beggs as much as his lyrics tell us.
As Beggs says, ‘Love has always been and hopefully, will always be the light and truth and it’s what we can have faith in to guide us through the darkness.’
