Most of the interviews for this show/podcast are done on Zoom. Every now and again I do one in person, and I have very nice microphones for it and also have an iPhone with lots of memory – or so I thought, because after never having a problem previously, it ran out of memory TWICE in this interview with the award-winning and chart-topping Jindabyne local turned Queensland resident Brad Cox. After the second time I had to switch to the iPad I was reading my questions from, which then meant I couldn’t remember the questions, so I had to finish after one final question.
I really wanted a hole to open up and swallow me, because in my opinion it’s incredibly rude to do that to an artist. But you know who was not, at any stage, perturbed by this tomfoolery? Brad Cox. Indeed, at the point at which I switched to the iPad he gave me a cheerful wave, which I’ve left in.
So this interview is not being presented to you the way I planned it. It’s choppy and I’m speaking too quickly because, out of my normal environment, clearly I speed up (as a natural fast talker, it takes me a bit of concentration to slow down for the interviews, and the different environment must have thrown me). But after interviewing Brad over Zoom a few times, it was great to see him in person, although not as great as seeing him live will be in Sydney this Saturday night when he plays at the Enmore Theatre. He is one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen. It will be a brilliant show, I have no doubt, and the rest of the shows on this tour are:

He also has a new single, ‘What Are the Odds’, which you won’t hear him talking about in this chat because, well, my phone ran out of memory and I didn’t realise. But don’t worry, I have inserted small clips throughout so that you know what’s going on. Because I’ve managed to be professional now. Just not at the point at which I stuffed around one of Australia’s greatest musical artists in the offices of his record company.
