Brisbane three-piece August River Band have released a new single, ‘In My Arms’, from their forthcoming album and as a follow-up to ‘Crazy’, released earlier this year. ‘In My Arms’ is a swirling, captivating song that the band says has a lot of their personalities in it: ‘the manic oscillation, the drive, the soaring heights’. Because the band is in Queensland, they’re allowed to play gigs … so there’s an album launch on 2 October at the Tivoli in Brisbane.

Newcastle singer-songwriter Anousha Victoire has followed up ‘Rather Be Your Lover (Than Your Wife)’ with another compelling single from her upcoming album, ‘La Sorcière’. The song was written while Victoire was working in a tiny village in French-speaking West Africa. ‘I was hearing tales of witchcraft that sounded similar to the tales I had heard when living in rural France,’ says Victoire, ‘and again while living in an indigenous community in rural Chile … stories of witches as healers are told in many cultures around the world.’

Effervescent singer-songwriter Mardi Wilson is based in Brisbane but spent quite a bit of time last year on the road. Since her return she has been working on her debut album, and has released a new single, ‘Part Time Lover’. Says Wilson, ‘I would hope if anyone listening to this song feels like they are being/ have been taken for a bit of a ride as a “part time lover” – they realize that they are not alone. I hope that this song speaks to those people and makes them feel empowered and important. You can’t help it if someone treat’s you like shit, but you can decide that you deserve better.’
