In February singer-songwriting Anita Spring released the single ‘Midnight Train’ which was, she said, about a decision to start afresh, ‘moving on and not looking back, a no-nonsense approach to life’. In its way it was about embracing new opportunities, and that’s a theme that Spring has continued – albeit in a different, delightfully spicy way – in her brand new single ‘American Pie’. It was inspired by the people she met and places she visited while living and writing in Nashville in late 2018.
The song is, says Spring, ‘my way of saying thanks to everyone I met in Nashville. Everyone I collaborated with – and most of all how much I wanted to stay in their company. This song is my way of acknowledging how special Music City really is.’
The accompanying video – which is having its premiere here today – was shot by Apollo Films in a chalet in Springbrook National Park in Brisbane. As with ‘Midnight Train’, Spring herself was the director for the clip, which showcases her abilities as a performer – the same abilities that have been valued by artists such as Tommy Emmanuel, The Robertson Brothers and Christine Anu, with whom she has toured. With the release of the song, and the video, Spring proves she is an artist who is passionately embracing many different facets of that role, and carrying them out beautifully.
