Kiara Rodrigues will be familiar to audiences at the Tamworth Country Music Festival because she has been playing there for quite a while – from childhood, in fact. She grew up with country music and, as she says, she didn’t know it was country music because it was just called ‘music’ in her home. Starting with talent quests, she developed her skills in performance and went to the Academy of Country Music at the age of ten, having started singing at seven. Voice is, in fact, a particular interest of hers and it’s become the focus of her career in other ways as well. As I found when we spoke recently Rodrigues is an astute, intelligent artist who is thoughtful about her songwriting as well as her singing, and that is evident on her latest single, ‘High School Reunion’, which is a playful twist on the theme.
